Newsletter 10.1 - May 10, 2024

Thank you to everyone who attended our last General Association meeting of the year. We went over the proposed budget for next year as well as discussed "gift to school", Drama club options, DMSEF and Prop 28!

Night of the Arts was an amazing evening. We hope you and your family were able to experience the artistic talents of the students in our community. Thank you to Teri Sun, Renee Sells, and Tara Tichy for all their hard work to make the event possible!

Thank you to Jane Desai, Kristen Howell, and Julie Jennings for planning a truly amazing Staff and Teacher Appreciation week AND our upcoming Parents Night Out!

We have a lot of fun family events coming up these last few weeks of school. Please join us after the bell rings for the start of summer for our "Party in the Park"! Details below!

Come meet up with old friends and connect with new ones!

SLIP Family Information Corner

Save the Date:Sunday, May 19th from 11 to 1 pm, we will be having a SLIP Family picnic at Ashley Falls Park. All SLIP families from Ashley Falls and Del Mar Hills Academy are invited! Bring your picnic lunch and family and join us for a meet up with other families.

The Ashley Falls PTA is looking for a parent who would be interested in being the SLIP Room Parent Liaison for next school year. This person would help to coordinate communication regarding SLIP specific events to all SLIP room parents. Please email Jane at vpinternal@ashleyfallspta.org if you are interested.

After the final bell on Friday, May 31st, join us at Ashley Falls park for a fun kick off to summer.

Please accompany your child, we are not providing childcare for this event.

Feel free to bring some snacks to share. We will be setting up at the park at 12 pm.

The Kona Ice Truck will be present. Ashley Falls students accompanied by an adult will be paid for by the Ashley Falls PTA. Any additional orders can be purchased directly from the truck.

Night of the Arts

The Ashley Falls PTA was once again proud to host our second annual "Night of the Arts" on Friday, May 3rd. Visual art was selected by students and displayed by class in the MUR. Impressive live performances by Ashley Falls students took center stage while our drama club hosts emceed this wonderful event.

This free, family-oriented event was made possible by the generous donations of Ashley Falls PTA members.

The entire set up, organization and tear down of the event was managed by Ashley Falls PTA members and parent volunteers.

Staff and Teacher Appreciation Week

Today concludes a fun filled week where we had the opportunity to shower our teachers and staff with love and appreciation. The Ashley Falls PTA dedicates a portion of our budget towards this week to ensure that our combined funds and efforts can maximize the appreciation to all the people who positively make a difference in the lives of our children.

This week we hosted an acai bar with pastries, gourmet coffee barista with bagels, garden themed brunch, popcorn and candy bar with gift card giveaway (thank you to the parents who contributed), and a catered Mediterranean lunch. Additionally, you may have seen the professional car cleaning service washing their cars this week. Special thank you to Marcus from Golden State Auto Wash!

The Ashley Falls PTA is proud to organize and host this week of appreciation for all our teachers and staff through the generous donations of Ashley Falls PTA families. Thank you for making this possible!

Zovargo Assembly

On Thursday, the Ashley Falls PTA brought the zoo to school! We hosted Zovargo for the students of Ashley Falls. Students learned about different animals and had the opportunity to touch or pet them. Ask your child what they learned or liked best about the assembly!

The Ashley Falls PTA is happy to research and pay for assemblies for our students to enhance their learning experience! Thank you to our VP of Programming, Amanda Frizzell, for doing the research and organizing of the assemblies for our children!

Garden Club

Our Garden Club is thriving! Currently we have artichokes, potatoes, bell peppers, tomatoes, strawberries, corn, rainbow chard, broccoli, sunflowers, watermelon, herb garden, pineapples, fig tree, and lavender and rosemary! We recently moved 2 lemon trees from the staff patio to the garden so they can receive more "love" throughout the year (and water and fertilizer)!

Our butterfly garden had 3 chrysalis hatch recently. Students gathered and watched the process every day!

The Ashley Falls PTA is proud to support the school garden and the teachers who encourage students to love gardening and fresh food!

Mileage Club

We are over 124 days of mileage club now and students have collectively run over 5,600 miles. Next Friday, May 17th marks the "finish line" for mileage club for this school year!

The Ashley Falls PTA is proud to support student wellness through the monetary and volunteer support of Mileage Club on our campus!

Safety Patrol

Safety Patrol has recently added new recruits for next school year and they have shadowed the current members the past 2 weeks. In a few weeks, the Safety Patrol team will be celebrating their success this year with a pizza party.

Encouraging attributes of leadership and responsibility, the safety patrol is made possible on our campus through the generous donations of Ashley Falls PTA members.

6th Grade Promotion Yard Signs

Families of current 6th graders! Don't forget to pick up your yard sign from the school front office! These are a gift from the Ashley Falls PTA for all 6th grade families! We are proud of our Eagles and excited for the next big step!

Volunteer Opportunities

The Ashley Falls PTA traditionally hosts our school's field day or "Goodwill Games" the day before the final day of the school year. It is a fun time for students to get outside and play a variety of games with their classmates before summer starts. This is also a fun adult volunteer opportunity.

The Goodwill Games is proudly organized and paid for by the Ashley Falls PTA.

DMSEF Rep still needed

Del Mar Schools Education Foundation (DMSEF) is still looking for one or two parent representatives from our Ashley Falls community. The foundation raises funds from each DMUSD school community to pay for STEAM+ teachers at all school site locations.
